The first place in the “National Award” of the Biennial of Architecture, Urban Planning and Iran was awarded to the project “Design and construction of a wooden movable roof” by Dr. Hossein Pourmehdi Ghaem Maghami, a member of the faculty of Shahid Beheshti University.
According to ISNA, this work was recognized as the first rank in the section of eleman and special structures in the fourth biennial national award of architecture and urban planning of Iran-1399.
The wooden movable roof design has a history of 12 years; It started with defining and performing construction-based training exercises in architectural design workshops and defining dissertations at the graduate level; The research projects were defined by the order of the Yazd Cultural Heritage Office and a sample (pilot) of a fixed wooden roof on the yard with dimensions of 7 by 8 square meters was designed and built in one of the traditional houses of Yazd.
The industrial application of this research study will be in the movable covering of swimming pools, fixed and movable roofs of sports stadiums, fixed and movable roofs of semi-open urban spaces, movable covering of traditional yards, covering of ancient buildings and its use in the field of restoration.
According to Shahid Beheshti University, covering the 14-meter span only with wood, which is a light and nature-friendly material, is one of the innovative aspects of the design. It should be noted that except for the present example, a convex wooden roof that opens and closes has not been made in Iran so far.
