Publication of the thirteenth edition book History of Iranian Cinema

The book: History of Iranian Cinema written by Massoud Mehrabi is considered to be the most widely circulated written film of cinema, which is still published almost four decades after its first edition.

The late Massoud Mehrabi has stated in the introduction of this book:

“There was a revolution that divided everything into before and after, and like any revolution, things were neglected or being erased. So I set to work on what we had from pre-revolutionary cinema to this side of the wall. The first edition of this book was published in 1984. Unfortunately, this did not happen to the theater and we still do not have a comprehensive book on the history of Iranian theater.

“He mentioned the book History of Iranian Cinema as his university dissertation in 1982 and after the Cultural Revolution and said: During the Cultural Revolution, various people were interviewed to compile this book. I spent many days in the National Library, the University of Tehran Library and the Parliamentary Library looking for different sources, and my friends helped me to cover what I had to cover,”.

Massoud Mehrabi was born in 1954 and graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts of the University of Arts with a degree in Film and Television. He studied film production management at the Industrial Management Organization of Iran.

He died suddenly in September 2020. In response to the news of Mehrabi’s death, the press and cinema media, in addition to expressing their regret, were deeply shocked and mourned the loss of one of the columns of the old film magazine.

The books: “History of Iranian Cinema”, “Film Posters”, “Bibliography of Cinema in Iran”, “Culture of Documentary Films of Iranian Cinema”, “Culture of Short Fiction Films, “One Hundred Years of Film Announcements and Posters” and “Travelogue of World Festivals” is one of his works.

The thirteenth edition of the book History of Iranian Cinema has been published with the efforts of Mr. Bahmanpour, the director of Nazar Publications.
