What do you know about the sculptures of Mellat Park?
Mellat Park is one of the recreational places in the north of Tehran where the works of prominent artists can be seen. In addition to their artistic aspect, these works also have historical value and are remembered by prominent artists such as the late Mohammad Ali Madadi, Abolhassan Khan Sedighi and more.
Mellat Park is one of the most important green spaces in Tehran, which can be called the heart of Tehran’s parks, therefore, preserving the works and the visual beauty of the works in this space is very important.
According to ISNA, the installation of urban sculptures in public spaces is one of the most important dimensions of urban elements and has always been associated with great sensitivities. It is said that urban sculptures play an important role in creating culture, transmitting the culture and art of a country, acquainting different generations with the glories of their country, beautifying the city and giving an acceptable effect to the urban space, and so on.
Of course, the installation or maintenance of urban sculptures in Iran has always faced many criticisms and margins; If the celebrity does not bear the necessary resemblance to the main subject, or if the sculpture is not of acceptable quality, it carries with it severe criticism that sometimes goes to the point of ridicule. In some cases, valuable artifacts are installed in the city, but due to lack of maintenance, they are destroyed or stolen.
The space of the parks is mainly a suitable place for the installation of urban sculptures, and this action can add another value and prestige to the space and turn it into a cultural and artistic place.
Including the parks of Tehran, which have many sculptural works; Tehran Mellt Park is located on Valiasr Street.
Recently, it was reported that some of the park’s sculptures and statues that had been destroyed had been restored.
Shapoor Divasalar, Deputy Minister of Culture and Urban Arts of Tehran – has said about the restoration of bronze sculptures in Mellat Park: 15 portraits are displayed in this park, all of which are made of bronze and only one work has been replaced with fiberglass due to being stolen in previous years have been. Unfortunately, these valuable works had not been repaired in the past years, so most of them were sedimented due to their location next to the water, and even suffered some damage from passers-by.
He said about the work of Master Abolhassan Khan Sedighi: “One of the most important works in this space is the statue of Amir Kabir, which was made by Master Abolhassan Khan Sedighi, who is one of the first sculptors and masters in this field, and directly from Florence to the Mellat Park is brought. This work is one of the very first class works that has a very good casting and can not be estimated in terms of artistic value, so our focus was on preserving these national treasures.
He said: “The works in this area were not seriously broken or cracked, but in some places there were small holes in the work that the restorer tried to cover with small welds.” In another part of the restoration work, the works were obliterated layer by layer and during a time-consuming process, and the oxidized layers were removed from them, which polished the works and restored their beauty.
