Death of Jalal Maghami, enduring voice of Iranian dubbing

Jalal Maghami, a well-known Iranian dubbing announcer, who gained a lot of fame among art lovers by performing Didaniha program on TV, died at age of 81 due to old age and cardiac arrest.

 According to Artmag.ir, in 1965, age of 24, Master Jalal Maghami, got his first acting experience with movie: My Mother and acted in 4 movies until beginning of Islamic Revolution. After revolution, he also acted in 3 movies, but his main fame was due to TV show Didaniha.

He was born in Tehran in a family originally from Kashan. He started his artistic activity from his teenage years, playing in theater, and then, with encouragement of Heidar Saremi, he entered the field of dubbing in 1958. He started dubbing management in 1966.

 Since 1983, at age of 42, the late Maghami, appeared on television with the TV program: Didaniha and for 12 years, during holy defense days and after that, he showed a different face on black and white televisions. He was surviving husband of Rafat Hashempour., another famous Iranian double.

He managed dubbing of works such as: Masoom (1998) and Chasing Shadows (1990).

 He is also supervisor of narrators of movies such as: Eagle’s Nest (1999), Pilot (1997), Invisible Man (1995), Safar Bekheir (1994), Haboot (1993), Baduk (1991), Wild Deer (1990), Red Wind ( 1998), Night of accident (1988), Tashkilat (1986), Lost (1985) and Story of long street (1978) in his artistic career.

 The late Maghami, instead of characters of foreign series such as: Edge of Darkness, instead of Ron Craven, played by Bob Peck, Secret Army, instead of Major Arvin Brandt, Poirot series, instead of Arthur Hastings, Poirot’s assistant detective, played by Hugh Fraser, first dubbing Sherlock Holmes instead of Dr. Watson, Second dubbing of Sherlock Holmes, instead of Sherlock Holmes starring: Jeremy Brett and Warning for Cobra 11, instead of Samir and also main narrator of documentary series: Eyewitness.

 He also acted in movies such as: Bite, Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid and Barefoot in Park with Robert Redford, Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia, with Omar Sharif, Bonnie and Clyde and Glory of Meadow with Warren Beatty. Leslie Howard’s play, Mutiny on Bounty ship, starring Richard Harris, Midnight Cowboy, starring Dustin Hoffman, and Ghazal, directed by Masoud Kimiai, starring Faramarz Gharibian, has been a voice actor.

 He acted in such works as: Raz Gol Shabbo (1993), Galan (1990), Zang Avval (1984), Alonak (1968), Tornado of Life (1968), Train Station (1966) and My Mother (1965).
