Iranian Candidates for Hans Christian Andersen Award 2024
Children’s Book Council introduced Alireza Goldozian in illustration section and Jamshid Khanian in writing section for the second time as Iranian candidates for the 2024 Hans Christian Andersen World Prize to International Bureau of Books for Young People (IBBY).
According to Artmag, quoted by Isna, Children’s Book Council wrote in an announcement announcing this news: Alireza Goldozian, an illustrator and graphic designer, was selected as an Iranian candidate for 2024 Hans Christian Andersen Award by Children’s Book Council.
He has been illustrating books continuously for more than two decades and has had a lasting and important impact on development of literature and book illustration for children and teenagers. His works have been included in many national and international lists and exhibitions and have won numerous awards such as Children’s Book Council Award, IBBY Diploma of Honor, Bratislava Grand Prize, Belgrade Golden Pen Award, Bratislava Biennale, Bologna Exhibition, etc.
So far, Goldouzian has been active in many exhibitions and workshops in field of book illustration in Iran and abroad, and he has also played a prominent role in improving the level of illustration of children’s and adolescent literature in Iran.
Alireza Goldozian is also one of the Iranian nominees for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) in 2014. Having a personal and different look in each of works, the ability to represent and design a wide range of forms, spaces and characters inspired by visual arts of Iran and world, skill in creating powerful, beautiful and impressive images and wide range of depicted subjects, a bold presence and influential in educating young generation illustrators; Some of reasons for choosing Alireza Goldozian by the Children’s Book Council as Iranian candidate for the world’s most important children’s and youth literature award.
Jamshid Khanian was selected for second time by Children’s Book Council as an Iranian candidate for the 2024 Hans Christian Andersen Award. Khanian is a prolific writer of past decades, whose works have won many national and international awards and honors, such as IBBY Diploma of Honor, the “White Crow” list (Munich International Children’s and Adolescent Library) and numerous national awards such as Children’s Book Council’s Award . He is also one of Iranian nominees for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (Alma) in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
So far, he has held many workshops and meetings in field of children’s and adolescent literature, story writing and literary criticism in different cities of Iran and abroad. So far, more than a hundred articles, treatises and research theses have been written based on his works. Jamshid Khanian has made a unique contribution in promoting and improving the quality level of Iranian children’s and youth literature. Khanian’s works, due to their bold and influential role in formation of today’s teenage fiction, emphasizing human concepts such as peace, tolerance, love, etc., dealing with human issues and crises such as discrimination, war, etc., paying attention to form and The technique along with the rich content, dramatic expression and linguistic identification and identity of writing style, emphasizing the aesthetic and artistic aspects as well as stimulating curiosity, questioning and development of critical thinking in audience by Children’s Book Council for second time as an Iranian candidate for the Hans Prize Christian Andersen is introduced.
Hans Christian Andersen Prize, known as Little Nobel; Every two years, collection of works of an author and an illustrator is awarded for a lifetime of professional activity in the field of children’s literature by International Bureau of Books for Young People (IBBY). Continuity in production of children’s literature, creation of novel, original and artistic works and having a stable contribution to the advancement of children’s literature in world are among the criteria for selecting writers and illustrators.
In previous editions, Hoshang Moradi Kermani, Mohammad Reza Yousefi, Mohammad Hadi Mohammadi, Ahmad Reza Ahmadi, Farhad Hassanzadeh and Jamshid Khanian were authors who were nominated as candidates for text section of the Hans Christian Andersen World Prize. Meanwhile, Hoshang Moradi Kermani was applauded by the judges. Ahmadreza Ahmadi and Farhad Hassanzadeh entered the list of the top five writers in the world.
Also, in illustration section, Farshid Mesghali, Nasrin Khosravi, Mohammad Ali Bani Asadi, Pejman Rahimizadeh and Farshid Shafiei were the illustrators who were nominated for the picture section of the Hans Christian Andersen World Award. Meanwhile, Farshid Mesghali (introduced by the Children’s Book Council and the Center for Intellectual Development of Children and Adolescents), is the only Iranian winner of this award, and Mohammad Ali Bani Asadi and Pejman Rahimizadeh made it to the list of top five illustrators in the world. Children’s Book Council wishes success to these two candidates.
