Iranian artist’s music album was one of 10 selected works of the world
Music album “Luka” by Mohsen Sharifian was selected and introduced as one of 10 selected albums in the world bagpipe section by Songlines magazine in May 2024.
According to Artmag.ir, “Songlines” magazine is a music magazine with a wide range of activities in world music, which is published in UK in electronic and physical form. Introducing music works in different genres from ancient to new music, choosing the best music albums in the world, introducing artists in this field and awarding year award are among the most important activities of this magazine.
Album “Luka” by Mohsen Sharifian has been selected and introduced by this magazine as one of 10 selected albums in bagpipe section of the world in May 2024.
Grammy Award-winning Irish bagpiper Davy Spillane’s album is also among Songlines magazine’s nominees.
Chris Wilsey, journalist of this magazine, describes Mohsen Sharifian and album “Luka” as follows: “Sharifian, a multi-instrumentalist and composer born in Bushehr province in south of Iran, is one of most important artists in that country in preserving and promoting traditional folk music and dance. “His reeds play a prominent role in this wonderful set, where percussive rhythms create intoxicating undertones in a dreamy atmosphere.”
International magazine “Songlines” was launched in England in 1999. This magazine specializes in the study of music from different parts of the world.
In 2013, this magazine introduced joint album of Keyhan Kalhor, an Iranian musician, and Ardal Arzanjan, a musician from Turkey, among 10 selected works of 2013.
Album “Luka” is experience of years of performance by music group “Lian” led by Mohsen Sharifian, which was released to Iran’s music market in last days of 2021.
Mohsen Sharifian said on the day of unveiling of this album: “When I was following taming sounds of waves and winds in narration of captains and sailors of south, I reached other songs on the dry shores of Persian Gulf!” Syllables of desert wanderers whose job was to tame camels. If camel’s foot falls, it will get sick! Worse than any ship in a wave, wilder than any sea! In old Bushehr port, camel is called “Lok” and its saddle is called “Jat”. Jets were leading people with a song… a dialogue according to sea and the coast!”
19th multimedia work of Mohsen Sharifian, musician and researcher of Bushehr (Port city in Central District of Bushehr County), contains 10 selected pieces from the most popular pieces of “Lian” music group, and its songs are selected from poems of southern folk poets.
Mohsen Sharifian, singer, composer, writer and player of Ney-anbān, Ney-jofteh and Flute instruments, was born in 1975 in Bushehr.
He has a first-class artistic degree (equivalent to a doctorate) in the field of music and playing Ney-anbān from Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and has a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, with a research orientation.
Sharifian, started his musical activity by founding music group “Lian” in 1993.
He won two awards in 38th Fajr Music Festival; In the field of research books (historical and technical) for book “Bab ol-Hava, Anthropological Music of Kish Island” and regional music section for “Luka” album.
