Biography
Master Gholam Hossein Amirkhani is a renowned Iranian contemporary artist and calligrapher. He spent the first two years of primary school in Taleqan. After settling in Tehran with her family, he completed her elementary education at Massoud Saad Salman Elementary School and completed high school with free classes. He then began to learn the art of calligraphy and excelled in the field of art. He has admirable and valuable skill in writing the Nastaliqh line of fine and large. Many refer to him as the best Nastaliqh now. He has been employed as a calligrapher since 2007 at the Department of Fine Arts in the former Ministry of Culture and Art (today’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance). His other jobs include managing and chairing the Supreme Council of Iranian Calligraphers Association, managing the Arasbaran Cultural Center (Art), and chairing the Supreme Council of the Iranian Artists’ House. Master Amirkhani works in the calligraphers’ association of Iran to teach calligraphers and other masters. He has been honored for his valuable cultural and artistic work as a pioneer of the Nastaliqh line and has been recognized as a lasting figure. He was a student of masters such as Seyed Hossein Mirkhani and Seyyed Hassan Mirkhani. He learned a great deal from the line of ancient masters such as Miremad al-Hassani, Mirza Mohammad Reza Kalhor, Emad al-Kottab, Ali Akbar Kaveh, and several others, as well as his works. Amirkhani in Nastaaliq has a unique style that is favored by many calligraphy masters. Many contemporary calligraphers, such as Karamali Shirazi, Ali Ashraf Kandahabadi, and Amir Ahmad Falsafi, are students of Gholam Hossein Amirkhani, and most contemporary calligraphers have contributed directly or indirectly to his line.
Master Amirkhani has organized dozens of individual and group exhibitions at home and abroad, including in the UK, France, Pakistan and Syria.
