Biography
He is illustrator of children’s and teen books, and Iranian winner of Hans Christian Andersen Prize. After high school, he moved from Isfahan to Tehran and studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran. He began his career illustrating various magazines. Farshid Mesghali’s professional career began in collaboration with Negin Magazine and dates back to 1964 – 1965. Books: Black Horse, with Black and White Illustration and Colorful Rooster Gold Book – Fairy Shirt; Ahmad Shamloo’s work is one of his first illustrations. Master Farshid Mesghali joined the artists of the Center for the Intellectual Development of Children and Adolescents in 1967. Illustration of some children’s books that Uncle Nowruz; The first of these was the result of the artist’s collaboration with the Center for the Intellectual Development of Children and Adolescents. During the period of two to three years, which also included the illustration of Little Black Fish, he won the first prize of the Italian Bologna Biennial in 1969. He has received numerous awards for illustrating the books Little Black Fish, Arash Kamangir, Jamshid Shah and Ghahraman. The other part is his professional life in America. This part of his artistic career began in California in 1986 with the launch of a personal graphics studio called Desktop Studio. He has used various methods in illustration. He has used lithography, collage, watercolors and other artistic tools and different styles such as Western styles and lithography to create artistic images. Imaging of the books of Uncle Nowrouz, Jamshid Shah, Blue Eye Boy, Arash Kamangir, Little Black Fish and the Legend of Creation in Iran are among the most important works of Mesghali. Typographic books and introductions to graphic design are also his famous books in the field of graphics. The Little Black Fish illustrator won the first prize at the Bologna International Children’s Book Fair, and was awarded a diploma at the Bratislava Biennial. In 1974, the Center for the Intellectual Development of Children and Adolescents nominated Farshid Mesghali for the Hans Christian Andersen Prize, and he won the prestigious World Prize for all his work. In 2012, Farshid Mesghali Intellectual Development Center for Children and Adolescents, along with Ahmad Reza Ahmadi, nominated him for the Lindgren Award.

Master Mesghali, in a meeting of modernist currents in the visual arts of Iran, which was held in the presence of Gholam Hossein Nami, Siamak Del Zandeh, Amir Socrates and Bahram Kalhornia on Monday, August 20, 2016 in Shahnaz Hall of the Iranian Artists’ House, said: Graphics is so attractive to me After attending several exhibitions, I decided to focus only on graphics, illustration, poster design for film and animation, and somehow fell into the margins of modern art. It was only after the revolution that I decided to start painting. He added: “Modern art is the result of profound economic, social, political and cultural changes.” If we look at the works of artists who have turned to pop art, cubism, abstract painting, we will find that these changes and their transformation into these styles are the result of the changes I have mentioned. He said: “It must be admitted that modern art in Iran has not progressed as it has in the West, and has not been the result of profound social and political changes.” This can be seen in other developing countries as well.

Farshid Mesghali’s Peace Medal was awarded to Farshid Mesghali at the closing ceremony of the 6th Art Festival for Peace, which was held from September 14 to October 26, 2016, at Mellat Cinema Campus.
