Babak Borzouye, a veteran photographer of Iranian cinema, died

Babak Borzouye, cinematographer, died after long suffering from the complications of the disease.

According to Artmag, Babak Borzouye was one of activists in field of theater and cinema photography, who has been in a coma since January 2022 due to a brain complication.

Babak Borzouye was born in 1969 in Tehran. After finishing high school, he continued his studies in field of associate art at Morabbian Honar (Art Educators) Institute. He completed his bachelor’s degree in photography at Tehran University in 1994. After a period of hiatus and artistic activities, Babak Borzouye continued his studies in acting/directing at Azad University and received a degree in this field in 1380.

In 1996, he won the Diploma and Crystal Simorgh for best film photographer, for photographing the film “Journey to Chazabeh” by Rasoul Mollagholipour. He was one of most active art photographers in Iran by photographing more than 10 television series, 35 long and short films and more than 200 domestic theaters. Cooperation with news agencies such as Fars, ISNA, ANA and Mehrnews is one of records of his activities.

Babak Borzouye played a role for first time at the age of eleven in the movie The School We Went To, produced in 1980, directed by Dariush Mehrjui. During his teenage years, he turned to this field due to his interest in photography and by continuing his studies in this field, he continued his professional activities in news photography, industrial photography and art photography. In 2012, he entered a new period of his activities by filming and directing the theater film.

Membership in Association of Canadian and American Photographers, membership in Board of Directors of Iranian Photographers Association, teaching photography in art and university centers, as well as the management of Sheidengar Cinema School, were among the other records of this photographer.

Babak Borzouye, who was in a coma since January 2022 due to brain complications and was hospitalized in intensive care unit, died on Tuesday, 6 August 2022.
