Our Only Weapon Is Art

Biuk Mirzaei, a performer on the radio program *Sobh‑e Jomeh ba Shoma* (“Friday Morning With You”) and a veteran artist in radio drama, emphasized that despite the difficult conditions caused by war, radio must not fall silent in such times.
According to Artmag.ir, Mirzaei stressed that during wartime the radio should continue its activity, and artists also have a responsibility to keep working as much as they can. Doing so, he noted, helps preserve the morale of society and prevents artists themselves from falling into exhaustion and depression.
Referring to the current circumstances, the experienced radio actor said:
“War is a terrible thing. We are distressed, we get frustrated, and in practice we are mostly confined to our homes. Much of the time we watch films, read books, or try to keep ourselves healthy through exercise.”
He also highlighted the role of media in such situations:
“Everywhere in the world, when war happens, radio has its own mission. In cultural, artistic, and social spheres, radio should not remain silent and must not go off the air.”
Mirzaei continued:
“As artists, we also have a duty to work in such conditions. Why shouldn’t we work? The conditions should simply be made possible. Those who take up arms to defend the country are doing their duty and deserve respect, but we too must remain active in our own field.”
Speaking about the role of artists, he added:
“Our only capability lies in the realm of art. We have spent many years working along this path, and it would be a pity for those experiences to be lost or forgotten. If we stop working, a person becomes unwell and depressed. We want to work, because not working only makes things harder.”
Addressing the psychological pressure caused by wartime conditions, he said:
“Right now everyone is under stress and worried about what might happen. Hopefully, calmer and better days will come.”
He added:
“This situation affects everyone, children, families, and even their future. Such stress can be damaging in the long term. I myself, considering my age and circumstances, feel these worries as well.”
Mirzaei concluded by expressing hope for the end of the conflict:
“I hope this war ends as soon as possible. War is not a good thing. I hope everyone stays safe and that these difficult conditions pass peacefully.”
