Master Kamran Katouzian passes away

Kamran Katouzian, a veteran graphic designer and reviver of Iranian advertising graphics, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the age of 83.

According to Artmag.ir, Master Kamran Katouzian, was one of the most influential Iranian graphic designers throughout its history and was someone who, according to many, brought about a significant change in the Iranian advertising industry.

Winning the joint prize at the Fourth Tehran Biennial in 1964 with modernist painter and sculptor Jazeh Tabatabaei, participating in the Paris Biennial in 1965, participating in the Venice Biennial in 1966, participating in the Washington International Art Festival in 1977, establishing the Saba Gallery in 1977, working at the Avan Garde Advertising Company in 1971, working at the Carpey Advertising Company in 1986, and so on, were some of the artist’s achievements.

The late Kamran Katouzian, born in 1944, left for America after high school to complete his education. He studied at the University of Arts around 1956 and later continued this path due to his great interest in the field of advertising. Painting was one of his serious interests.

In 1964, he founded the Saba Gallery with Naser Mofakhkham and Changiz Shahvagh, which was a center for modern and young artists of those days.

Later, he formed the Tehran Plastic Artists Group with a number of artists and pursued the introduction of modern art to the public through his exhibitions.

The late Master Kamran Katouzian, was one of the first graphic designers who, relying on the aesthetics of painting, tried to create a different atmosphere in graphic design.
